Summit seemed to be playing the first half as if they
in slow motion. They just couldn't seem to get their act together.
As a result West Essex, who came into the game with a 4-3 record,
took a 25-21 lead at the half, and things didn't look good for
the 19th ranked team in the state. Coach Farinella must have lit
a fire under the team during the break because they came out as
different team. Summit really turned up the defensive pressure
and forced a lot of turnovers. In fact, Stephanie Bruce
alone had 8 steals in that quarter. In addition, Summit started
hitting their shots. Bruce and Danielle Proper combined
for 18 of Summits 26 points in the 3rd quarter (Bruce had
10 and Proper 8). The result was that Summit turned a 5 point
deficit into a 14 point lead and put the game away. Bruce
led the team with 18 points and 11 steals while Proper
scored 12 points, but every player on the team contributed points
toward the victory.
