The offense, that looked so promising last week, sputtered this week and the defense continued to give up a lot of big plays. Hanover Park scored the first 4 times they touched the ball and the game was out of reach by the end of the 1st quarter. After a promising first drive by Summit, that was stopped by a dropped pass on the Hanover Park 20 yard line. HP scored in two plays, the last being a 70 yard run. Summit again moved the ball into HP territory before having to punt. Four plays later HP's QB ran 57 yards for their 2nd TD. On Summit's first play after the kickoff Keith Schroeder's pass was intercepted and run back for the 3rd TD of the quarter. Summit took the kickoff but failed to make a 1st down and had to punt. The punt was returned 45 yards to the Summit 20. Six plays later the score was 28-0. HP scored once more before the end of the half.

Hanover Park scored its final TD on the first possession of the 2nd half. The drive culminated in a 51 yard run. At this point the substitutes began to enter the game and the remainder of the game was a battle of the 2nd and 3rd teams. Summit's score came on a 4th quarter pass from Chris Jones to Andrew Trombley, Nick Monaco kicked the extra point.

Schroeder, and later Jones, were under tremendous pressure every time they tried to pass. They were sacked seven times for a total loss of 47 yards. When subtracted from the rushing yards, that left a positive total of only 22 yards on the ground. Even when Summit's passers weren't sacked they were forced to hurry the throws on almost every attempt.

Summit lost one of the most potent weapons when Mike Nelson was seriously injured on the opening kickoff.
