Nick Monaco PAT gave Summit a 7-6 lead. MO's second TD came after MO recovered a Summit fumble on the Summit's 10 yard line. Summit had stopped a long MO drive but quickly turned it over. To the delight of the Summit fans, Wheeler returned the kickoff 90 yards for a TD to tie the score. Unfortunately, MO launched a 60 yard/9 play TD drive to regain the lead. Not to be outdone, Summit drove 70 yards in 3 plays, a 20 yard pass to Jon Campagna, a 35 yard pass to Wheeler and a 15 yard TD pass to Campagna. Monaco's PAT gave Summit a 21-20 lead. The scoring continued unabated as MO went 60 yards in 6 plays. MO final score of the half came after the only interception of the game. The half ended with MO ahead 35-21.
The second half began where the 1st half ended as MO took the opening kickoff and drove for a TD in 4 plays. Undaunted, Summit answered with a 60 yard drive of its own. A 22 yard pass to Nelson was followed by a 43 yard pass to Wheeler. Nelson completed the drive with a 12 yard TD run. Summit had closed to 42-27. Summit finally held MO and forced a punt. Summit took over on the MO 44 yard line. Runs by Nelson gave Summit a 1st down on the MO 31 yard line. A pass to Wheeler covered the final 31 yards. Score: 35-42. As the 3rd Quarter ended MO drove 80 yards for their 7th TD. This drive was aided by two 15 yard penalties against Summit.
The 4th quarter began as Nelson raced 44 yards to to make the score 41-49. For only the 2nd time, following the kick off, Summit forced MO to punt. Unfortunately, a fumble at the Summit 33 gave MO the ball, and eventually another TD. In a key play, Todd Ward blocked the extra point try. Things looked pretty grim for Summit as they were now down 41-55. In an unbelievable sequence Wheeler scored on a 70 yard pass, Nelson grabbed the 2-point PAT pass, Summit forced MO to punt, and with a bit over 3 minutes left in the game, Wheeler scored on a 79 pass play. Wheeler put some great moves on the MO defenders as he ran the final 40 yards. Monaco's PAT attempt was good and suddenly Summit had the lead 56-55. Could Summit hang on for the final 3 minutes? Things didn't start out well as MO returned the kickoff back to Summit's 47. Three running plays resulted in a 1st down on the 35. On 2nd down Summit caught MO for an 8 yard loss but Summit was called for a personal foul, although no one in the Summit stands observed anything out of the ordinary. So instead of 3rd and 14 from the 39, it was first and 10 from the 19. That penalty sealed Summit's demise as five plays later MO scored from the one with only 7 seconds left on the clock.
