Both teams entered the game having not won this season, so the string was destined to be broken for one of the schools. Unfortunately, it turned out to be Parsippany. Both offenses scored three touchdowns, but Parsippany's pass defense made the difference. They intercepted two passes that were returned for easy touchdowns. Summit's running offense put up some good numbers but the passing part of the game sputtered a bit, as Keith Schroeder was sacked 3 times and connected on only 9 of 26 with 4 interceptions.

Summit stopped Parsippany's first drive when they forced a fumble at the Summit 1 yard line. Running by John Martini and a pass to Matt Benedetti gave Summit a first down at their 28, but a pass was picked off at the 38 yard line and returned, untouched, for a TD. On the next series Summit was forced to punt from their 26 but the ball slid off the side of the kicker's foot giving Parsippany the ball on Summit's 30. Eight plays later Parsippany scored on a 1 yard plunge. Following the kickoff five carries by Martini and a 40 yard run by Mike Nelson produced a 4th and 1 on the Parsippany 18. A pass over the center to Martini was good for Summit's first score. On Parsippany's next series Summit forced them to turn over the ball on downs at Summit's 35. However, on the very next play Parsippany intercepted a pass in the flat and scored easily.

On the second half kick off Parsippany fumbled and Summit took over on Parsippany's 31. Runs by Nelson and Martini moved the ball to the 19. From there Nelson ran it in for the score. A two point attempt failed and Summit was down 21-12. After an exchange of punts Parsippany took possession on their 34. A 52 yard run followed by a 14 yarder produced another quick Parsippany TD. In the 4th quarter Summit completed a 78 yard/ 8 play drive that was capped by a reverse to Billy Wheeler who went 16 yards for the score. The 2 point try failed , leaving the score 27-18. The final score of the game came when Parsippany took the on-side kick at mid-field and scored in 5 plays.
