Senior Ryan Sula established a new SHS school record at Oak Ridge Park on Thursday at the Union County Conference Championships. His mark of 16:14 bettered Luke Mauriello’s time of 16:21 from the previous year. Ryan now ranks as one of the fastest in school history on multiple courses. Sophomore Emre Kusmin continued his stellar year finishing in 16:45, which is SHS all-time #5 on the course, and placed 10th overall. The team finished third overall in a loaded field behind NJ#1 Union Catholic and NJ#6 Westfield. The Hilltoppers are currently NJ#10 based on NJMilesplit’s rankings.
The JV squad finished second overall led by Senior Tadhg Jarzebowski, breaking 18 minutes for the first time.
The freshmen, who like the upper levels of the program are top 10 in the state, captured the team title, finishing ahead of Westfield and Union Catholic. Ninth graders, Dan Cota and Nikita Shevykakov, led the team, finishing in first and second place overall.
