SMS Girls Basketball Falls to Franklin, 54-29

With a short bench and facing a strong opponent, the SMS girls basketball team fell short tonight in the Franklin gym in their rescheduled game from the snow-out last Friday.

The team got off to a relatively good start, going up 4-1 on two baskets by Charlotte Yarnall in the first 90 seconds of the game. From there however, things started to spiral as the team got into foul trouble and Franklin started making shots and forcing turnovers and took an 18-10 lead to end the first quarter.

Franklin opened the 2nd quarter with 2 consecutive 3-pointers an another field goal, unanswered, and Summit found themselves down 28-10. The game was never in doubt from that point, as it was 32-17 at the half.

The second half started with more of the same, as Franklin put up 19 points in the 3rd quarter with some hot shooting and domination of the boards.

Yarnall finished with a team high 14 points, followed by Mackenna Welsh, who had a strong game, with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

The girls next game will be a much anticipated rematch against Warren next Wednesday Jan 19th, in the SMS gym at 4:00pm. Come out and cheer on the team!
