Girls Middle School Basketball Wins Home Opener, 39-7

The Girls Middle School Basketball team, led by Coach Ike Welsh, took their first home game of the season today beating Readington by a score of 39-7, improving their overall record to 2-1. The game was never in doubt, with Summit taking a 22-5 lead into halftime bolstered by strong defense and well executed offensive plan. Scoring was well distributed with 6 of 9 players scoring at least 4 points. Caroline Willecke (2027) and Kate Shin (2028) each had 8 points for the game.

The team opened 1-1 on the road, dropping the season opener to Warren 35-48 on December 1st and beating Branchburg 38-22 on December 8th. The team has been bitten by an injury bug with Emma Gingeleski (2027) having to leave the Warren game and Charlotte Yarnall (2027) having been injured in the pre-season.

The team looks to get healthy as they finish their pre-holiday schedule with a 4 game homestand vs. Clinton on Thursday 12/15, Bridgewater Monday 12/19, and Frankin Wednesday 12/21. All games are at 4pm in the LCJSMS Main Gym.
